Vajra Printing served as the Ashram’s in-house printing and publishing department from 1980 to 2000. For over 20 years Glenn James, with the occasional assistance of other member volunteers, fulfilled the printing needs of Ashram Program Services, United for the Preservation of Womanhood, Amityville Art Gallery, Moksha Community Education Center and Bookshop and Santosha Vegetarian Dining with the printing of:
- Books & Journals
- Restaurant & Catering Menus
- Monthly Brochures & Flyers
- Programs, Announcements, Invitations and more
Vajra printing started out with the purchase of a refurbished offset printing press under the auspices of United for the Preservation of Womanhood of Y.A.A. and later became known as Vajra Printing & Publishing of Y.A.A.
The more modern equipment was a welcome advance from printing on the Ashram’s original wax stencil mimeograph machine by Kathe Uzzi Jeremiah and Glenn James throughout the 1970’s.
The Vajra printing press and paper cutter, weighing approximately 650 lbs each, along with a myriad of bookbinding equipment, were relocated several times as the printing and publishing needs of the Ashram grew. It was lovingly carried by pillars and members from it’s original delivery at a house in East Massapequa, NY shared by Glenn James and Chris and Maureen Chapple, to the Ashram’s second floor office in the Amityville Triangle Building, to the basement of 152 Merrick Road and finally just next door to the more spacious Ashram office at 154 Merrick Road.
