There is a very special place in all of us, in everything, in all living beings — a sacred place, the silent depth within you. When you find that place, acknowledge it, honor it, and reside in it. In this place we have peace beyond imagination – a quiet peace, a silence within, a very beautiful place. All those that have been there have taken refuge. Words cannot express that beautiful place. Anyone that has gone there is immune to life in this world. Many have gone to that place and have risen above the pettiness of life, like the lotus blossoming, rising above, looking beautiful, having serenity, quietness, showing its splendor, born of that place — the silent depth within. All of you have had a glimpse of that place. And because you have had a glimpse, a taste, you want to reside in that place and you want to rise up. Rise up and look beautiful like the lotus, even though there is so much pollution all around. The individual who goes within that silent depth rises above all kinds of pollution and looks pretty. That’s a special person. That’s a special flower. Words cannot express, and no matter how eloquently one speaks, it cannot be expressed. It can only be impressed upon the mind and the senses to see, hear, touch, smell, and taste. The mind will imagine and try to grasp and understand the life of the lotus. One can only imagine and try to understand. In so doing, the one that is looking and trying to imagine and to understand is drawn in, into the presence of that beautiful flower. Drawn into that being-in-time that rises above, one is drawn into the silent depth.
Be happy and sing. Be happy. The bird when it flies out of the cage is so happy. It opens up its wings and it just flies. Like that, like a bird which is locked within the cage of this body, let your voice rise up and let it go. Show your freedom. Raise your voice.
In order to come to the realization of meditation, many techniques are employed. Singing is one technique which allows you to go within yourself. By going within, you may reach out, so that all may hear you, especially yourself. So that you may hear your voice and hear many voices within you sounding the sound of om, going through the many movements and rhythms of sound. Through singing you may enter the silent depth within. Don’t be afraid of going within. It is where you really are. All these external manifestations are only external manifestations of the reality that you are. And all these external manifestations are subject to change. As you evolve, changes also evolve. There is always that nature of becoming, flowing, becoming, becoming, moving, constantly. That’s your life. That’s my life. That’s everyone’s life. The external manifestations are very beautiful, yet they show us something else. When you go within the silent depth within you, you begin to see how the changes occur, how they become. What becomes of them? Where do they go? How do they rise? How do they disappear? In the appearance there is the disappearance. At what point is the appearance and at what point does the disappearance occur? This and much more, you will discover as you go deep within the silent depth which is your own reality. It is your own reality and it is the reality of all living beings, everything.
Sitting down is also a technique to come to the realization of meditation. Sitting is a perfect position that is perfectly wonderful for you during meditation. During the time that you are involved in a particular situation, the situation will demand of you to take a position. This is a way of life and we must take positions. Sometimes we know we are taking a position and sometimes we are just in a position. We find ourselves in a position. This is a wonderful thing about Yoga. Yoga creates within the individual a yearning to be free, a yearning to be selfless, a yearning to be like the lotus that is never touched by the pollution all around. This is the wonderful thing about the science, philosophy and practice of Yoga. Om shanti.
