Let us begin the morning’s meditation with the Gayatri Mantra. Now gayatri means to sing. To give praise—to give praise to that luminous ball of fire that we see rising early in the morning. We are to give praise to that. And to recognize that which is out there—seems to be out there—really is right within our being and within every living being.
We are to take note that we are part of everything and everything is part of us. Particularly in the morning when we see the sunrise, we are to acknowledge the splendor, the majesty, the selflessness, the all-providing one and we are to humble ourselves to give praise and thanks. This mantra is in praise of surya, the sun that shines upon us and gives us life. We are to see it, acknowledge it, and pay adoration to it. Take a deep breath and fill your lungs up and bring to mind this great ball of fire in all its splendor, surya. Om shanti, shanti, shanti.
Om
bhur bhuvah svah
tat savitur varenyam
bhargo devasya dhimahi
dhiyo yo nah prachodayat
Om shanti, shanti, shanti.Om
Earth, atmosphere, sky,
that desirable (splendor) of Savitri (Life Giving Life)
May we meditate upon that power the God
and may it inspire our thoughts.
Om, peace, peace, peace.
Early morning see the sunrise and give praise to Savitur, the one that shines so brilliantly on every living being, that gives life to all. It shines so that we all may speak and move, eat and enjoy this life. As you see the sun rising in the morning open up your arms. Embrace that splendor which enters into your life. Bring it up to your forehead, to your heart, and then put your hands out and say the Gayatri Mantra. Do this every morning.
End the evening with;
Om satyam sundaram Agni,
Om satyam sundaram Agni,
Om satyam sundaram Agni.Om, honor the truth and beauty of Agni (sacred fire).
The rising of the sun and the setting of the sun are very significant points in our life. Let us show honor and respect so that we may see all living beings are alive and well. Enjoy the splendor of the sun. Its life is for all living beings. Let us honor and respect every living being because Savitur, Savitri enters into all living beings. We can feel it. We can see it and we can rejoice.
When we look at the sunlight we are to consider and worship this beautiful light which removes the darkness. We are always in the dark when we don’t see the light. So we are to remove the veils of maya—the veils of ignorance that blind us from reality. May you continue to meditate every day of your life. Let us energize ourselves and ignite ourselves and become splendid like the sun that is shining bright. Let us put light wherever we go, let us shine brightly.
You don’t have to wait until you die to find this out. All this is possible only to the seeker after truth, no one else. So know the desires in your heart and move yourself, quietly, silently—quietly and silently. That’s what it takes, silently, silently, very quietly.
Om shanti,
Gurani Anjali
